Game Recap:
The Dreadsox were aching for a victory, and found the relief they were looking
for against Overlake Hospital. The Dreads exploded for a big lead in the top of
the first inning, and didnt look back. The first seven Dreadsox to step
to the plate hit safely, racking up 5 runs in the process. In all, the Dreads
belted 15 hits in the inning, including 5 doubles and a home run, en route to
a 13-0 lead. The score remained the same through the bottom of the first, as
the Dreadsox defense didnt give up a single hit. The Dreads added 3 more
runs in the top of the second when LF Susan Smiley Lyons clobbered
a 2-run homer, followed by a Chris Bootch Burch solo shot. Overlake
got on the board in the bottom frame, as they used a couple of walks, a couple
of doubles, and a Dreadsox error to score 4 runs. The Dreads added a couple more
runs in the third inning, as OF Eric Shady Shadle belted an RBI
triple, then scored on a Sandy Sander Hallstrom base hit. After the
hospital dwellers scored another run in the bottom of the 4th, the Dreads tallied
another 9 runs in the top of the fifth, fueled by a couple of 2 RBI doubles by
SS Kurt Lil Hurt Hayashida and 1B Marc Psycho Nagel.
The hospitalized opponents tried to climb out of the mortuary with a rally in the
bottom frame, but their 6 runs were too little, too late, as the 10 run mercy rule
was enforced with the score at 27-11. Not only did every Dreadsox batter collect
at least one base hit, but everyone scored at least one run.
Defensive Play of the Game:
Overlake Hospital tested the Dreadsox outfield corners early. The first batter
sent a fly ball to RF Philip Phlipper Hallstrom, which promptly he
gobbled up. After the second batter walked, the third batter ripped a frozen rope
line drive to right field, which Phlipper again snuffed. The next batter decided
to stay away from Phlipper at right field, and hit a low shot to shallow left field.
LF Susan Smiley Lyons charged in, and made a nice catch off her
shoetops for the third out.
Offensive Play of the Game:
C Cindy Helmet Louie had a breakout game at bat, going 5-for-5, scoring
3 runs, and driving in 2 runs.
Laugh of the Game:
With 2 outs, and runners on first and third in the top of the first inning,
infielder Curtis Knocker Nakamura slapped a drive into center field.
As the Knocker coasted into second with an RBI double, he was greeted with an
errant throw from the outfield, which knocked on wood. Luckily, it was only a
glancing blow to the crotch, and Curtis didnt have to ice down his nether
regions.
