Game Recap:
The Dreadsox dropped a close one in their third game. Danzas Devil Rays
scored 4 runs in both the 2nd and 4th innings, and held on to win 8-7. Maybe
with another inning, the Dreadsox could have completed a comeback... wait a
minute, why did we only play 6 innings??! The umpire must have been under the
impression that we are in a 6 inning league, as both games of the double-header
were cut an inning short.
Despite the loss, the game featured a few defensive gems. In the first inning,
LF Kevin Hayashida made a sliding catch of a shallow fly ball, and two batters
later made a diving catch of a pop-up down the left field line. In the fifth
inning, SS Jay Matsudaira made an error (ahem... purposely) on a short infield
blooper, allowing runners to reach first and second base in an attempt to make
Dreadsox history. J-Bangs master plan came together when the next batter
lined a shot to his left, which he caught just above his shoetop. With both
runners running on contact, he was able to step on 2nd for the force out of the
runner on second, and tag the runner coming from first for the unassisted triple
play - the first in Dreadsox history.
Offensively, Sandy Hallstrom and John Hawkins continued their hot hitting. Both
batted 1.000 through the first three games. Sue Foss made her Dreadsox debut with
a solid performance in LCF and going 2-for-3 batting.
