Game Recap:
The Dreadsox got back in the win column with a convincing 19-8 victory over 3 Up - 3 Down.
Kurt “The Li’l Hurt” Hayashida opened the game with a double that turned
into a self-scoring RBI when the opposing right fielder grossly overthrew 2nd base, allowing
Kurt to scamper around 3rd and on to home. Base hits by Sandy “Sander” Hallstrom,
Philip “Phlipper” Hallstrom, “H.R. Puff’n” Steff Zabriskie, Jay
“J-Bang” Matsudaira and Marc “Psycho” Nagle, plus a double by Susan
“Smiley” Lyons, produced a 5-0 lead. Deradsox pitcher Sander Hallstrom began the
bottom of the 1st with a 2-base walk to the lead-off man with 4 straight balls, but quickly
found her groove. The next 3 Three Up - Three Down batters did exactly that, as they foolishly
tested the Dreadsox outfield by flying out to RF Phlipper Hallstom, CF Smiley Lyons, and LF
Eric “Shady” Shadle. After being held scoreless in the top of the 2nd, the Dreadsox
let the Upper/Downers climb back into the game with 3 runs for a 5-3 ballgame. The Dreads
increased their lead in the top of the 3rd when they loaded the bases with their first 3 batters,
then Shady drove in 2 with a 2 out double for a 7-3 Dreadsox lead. The Dreads defense again
shut down the Up-Down clan in the bottom of the 3rd, then increased their lead to 8-3 after
4½ innings. The 3 Up crew made up for 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th, but the Dreadsox
blew the game open in the 5th. The Dreads piled up 6 runs in the inning, capped by a Smiley
Lyons home run. Then, after the stout Dreadsox defense turned a double play to help preserve
a scoreless bottom of the 5th inning, the Dreadsox bats pounded out 5 more runs in the top of
the 6th inning. Psycho Nagle and Shady Shadle both knocked in 2 RBI’s with doubles in the
inning. The Dreadsox defense put the clamps on the game by holding 3 Up - 3 Down to 2 runs in
the bottom of the 6th inning, and the mercy rule was called with the Dreadsox winning 19-8.
Defensive Play of the Game:
SS Kurt “Li’l Hurt” Hayashida actually CAUGHT a fly ball in the bottom of the
3rd inning!
Offensive Players of the Game:
12 of the 13 Dreadsox playing in the game had at least one hit, with 9 players collecting 2 or
more. “H.R. Puff’n” Steff Zabriskie, Curtis “Knocker” Nakamura, and
Jay “J-Bang” Matsudaira each batted 4-for-4, with Knocker and J-Bang collecting a
double each.
Laugh of the Game:
In the bottom of the 4th inning, SS Kurt “The Li’l Hurt” Hayashida relayed a
ball home from the outfield to keep a runner at third. Catcher Cindy “Helmet” Louie
caught the ball in her mitt, but was confused as to what to do with the ball next. It was then
that she realized that her option to throw the ball anywhere was slightly impaired by the fact
that she was holding her catcher’s mask in her throwing hand. Luckily, action stopped, and
time was called, so she tucked her mask under her arm and tossed the ball back to the pitcher.
