Game Recap:
The Dreadsox dropped the second game of the double header 12-8, and had Mighty Mo on their
side in their comeback attempt, but the umpire stopped the game after 5 innings. 3 Up - 3 Down didnt
take too kindly to getting 10-runned in the previous game, and opened up the game with 4 runs on 6 hits in
the top of the 1st inning. The Dreadsox were able to get a run in the bottom of the 1st, after Kurt
Lil Hurt Hayashida led off with a double, then scored on a Philip Phlipper
Hallstrom triple. The Up-Downs continued their assault in the second inning, scoring 4 more runs, to which
the Dreadsox again answered with one run of their own this one coming after Kay K.O.
Ounaphom doubled, then scored on a Marc Psycho Nagle single. The Dreads held the Up-Down gang
to 2 runs in the 3rd inning, then again scored 1 run in the bottom frame when H.R. Puffn
Steff singled home Curtis Knocker Nakamura for a 10-3 score. The 3 Uppers made it a 11-3 score
after 4, then went up 12-3 after 4½. Thats when the Dreadsox decided to wake up. The Dreads got
base hits from Psycho Nagle, K.O. Ounaphom, Sandy Sander Hallstrom, H.R. Puffn Steff, and
Phlipper Hallstrom, as well as a triple from Knocker Nakamura and a home run from the Lil Hurt for 5
runs and a 12-8 score. With that, the umpire looked at his watch, and called the game short.
Defensive Plays of the Game:
SS Kurt Lil Hurt Hayashida spearheaded some great Dreadsox defense, as he pounced on
ground balls all evening, and was involved in turning 3 double plays in 5 innings.
Offensive Play of the Game:
Leading off the bottom of the 3rd inning, Curtis Knocker Nakamura slapped a ground ball to 3rd
base. With Knocker hustling down the line, the 3rd baseman scooped up the ball like Cal Ripken, then fired
the ball to first... like ex-Seattle Mariner Russ Davis. The ball was way wide, and got by the first baseman,
allowing Knocker to head for second. As Knocker took second, the first baseman threw to (or in the general
direction of) 2nd, but the throw again got away from the baseman. Again, Knocker dug his cleats in, as he
looked for a sign from the 3rd base coach. Ooops... there was no third base coach, only a dugout full of
hysterical Dreadsox yelling, Go!, Stay!, Cmon!, and the
ever-so-helpful, Woohoo!. Knocker ran for third, and through all the yelling, he was able to
pick out the voice of Kay K.O. Ounaphom, who bellowed out a command with the authority of a
veteran Navy Captain aboard her nuclear powered submarine... DIVE!!! The word seemed to blast
the legs right out from under Knocker, as he flung himself forward... actually, it was more downward than
forward, and landed safely at third with a clunk-thud and a face full of dirt.
Laugh of the Game:
In the top of the third, a 3 Up - 3 Down player hit a ball to shallow left-center field. Rover H.R.
Pufffn Steff Zabriskie drifted over to her right, then moved back a bit to position herself for the
catch. Meanwhile, Philip Phlipper Hallstrom charged in from his foreign position at left field.
The ball was just a little too far for Puffn Steff, as it barely tipped out of her mitt. She tried to
recover & catch the ball, but was falling down in the process. Phlippers eyes grew big as he
leaned forward to try to snatch the tipped ball out of the air, but was unable to get his tall frame low
enough to catch the ball before it hit the ground. Not to say that he didnt EVENTUALLY get his body
low enough, as he tumbled to the ground. Both he and Steff sat there laughing, as CF Susan Smiley
Lyons grabbed the ball and threw it into the infield to hold the runner to a double.
