Game Recap:
The Dreadsox had a rare shortness of men to take on an undefeated Brookshire
Homes team. With only 3 men able to make it to the first game of the double
header, the Dreads fielded 3 men and 7 women against the tough division leader.
The Dreads played well offensively and defensively, and build a 9-3 lead in the
4th inning, but couldnt hang on. Brookshire Homes came from behind to win
11-18. The Dreadsox scored 4 runs to lead off the game, as Philip Phlipper
Hallstrom, Susan Smiley Lyons, Jay J-Bang Matsudaira,
Cindy Helmet Louie, Kurt Lil Hurt Hayashida, and
Shaggy Sheri Smith hit consecutive base hits. The Dreads allowed
2 runs in the bottom of the first inning, then were held without a run in the
top of the second. Brookshire Homes added another run in the bottom frame to
cut the Dreads lead to 4-3. The Dreads got the run back in the top of the
3rd when Smiley Lyons belted a triple to left field, scoring
J-Bang Matsudaira. After retiring the Homely ones 1-2-3 in the
bottom of the 3rd, the Dreads scored 4 runs in the top of the 4th to build a
9-3 lead. The Homies responded with 3-runs in bottom frame, then the Dreads were
held at bay in the top of the 5th. The Dreadsox 9-6 lead turned into a 11-9
deficit in the bottom of the 5th inning, then got worse in the 6th, as
Brookshire sent home 7 runners for a 18-9 lead. With high hopes for a 9-run
comeback, the Dreads were only able to score 2 runs in the top of the 7th for
a 18-11 final score.
Defensive Play of the Game:
The Dreadsox outfield of LF Susan Smiley Lyons, CF Jay J-Bang
Matsudaira, and RF Stephanie Stun Gun Dunniway kept busy chasing
down Brookshire Home fly balls. The trio accounted for 11 of the 18 Brookshire
outs, and hustled to keep other hits to singles or doubles. Smiley
Lyons snagged 5 of the fly balls, including an inning ender with the bases loaded.
Offensive Play of the Game:
2B Deborah Howler Wolfe and Jay J-Bang Matsudaira were
perfect at the plate. Howler went 2-for-2 with a walk and a run
scored, while J-Bang hit 7-for-7 and scored 3 runs.
Laugh of the Game:
None recorded.
