Game Recap:
The Dreadsox pulled out a tough 7-4 victory vs HDR in the first game of the double header.
The Dreads held HDR scoreless in the top of the first inning, then got a lead-off double
from Kevin “The Joker” Hayashida. The Joker scored the only run of the inning
when “H.R. Puff’n” Steff Zabriskie hit a ground ball through the infield.
The Dreadsox again held HDR scoreless in the second, then scored a couple runs in the
bottom of the frame when Sandy “Sander” Hallstrom walked, Jay “J-Bang”
Matsudaira tripled to score Sander, then Angela “Babble-On” Porter singled to
score J-Bang. HDR closed the gap to 3-2 in the third inning, and after shutting down the
Dreadsox 1-2-3, tied the game with a run in the top of the fourth. The Dreadsox finally
took advantage of HDR’s shortage of fielders in the bottom of the fourth. The Joker
led off the inning with his second double of the game, and scored on Philip “Phlipper”
Hallstrom’s base hit. After Sander walked and Vince “Pako” Brooks reached
on a fielding error to load the bases, Porter and Matsudaira hit consecutive base hits to
score two more runs for a 6-3 lead. HDR was finally able to field a whole team defensively
in the fifth, where both teams earned a run each, the Dreadsox run coming when Curtis
“Knocker” Nakamura doubled then scored on Eric “Shady” Shadle’s
base hit. Leading 7-4, the Dreadsox stifled any comeback effort by HDR, as the sixth and
seventh innings went scoreless.
The Dreadsox played great defense, holding their opponent to 8 hits, and committing only 1
error. The Joker had a solid game at the plate, going 2-for-3 with 2 doubles and scoring 2
runs. Phlipper also went 2-for-3 with a run scored and 1 RBI. Babble-On Porter had a 3-for-3
game with 2 RBI’s, and J-Bang went 2-for-2 with a run scored and 1 RBI on a single and
a triple. Susanne “Su-Xanadu” Hartsock finally got to play in her first Dreadsox
game after showing up to one set of games that was won by forfeit, and one that was rained out.
