Game Recap:
The Dreadsox overcame a shortage of players and an injury to OF Kevin The Joker
Hayashida in beating Slide Rulers in the first game of their double header by a score of 23-5.
With only 4 women showing up, the Dreadsox could only field 8 players defensively, because by
league rules a team cannot field more men than women. Being the visiting team helped the Dreadsox
in the first game, as they had first at-bat, and were able to quickly score 10 runs. The Joker
led off the game with a triple to right field, and scored on H.R. Puffn Steff
Zabriskies sacrifice fly to center field. The Dreadsox loaded the bases with a Marc
Psycho Nagle base hit, a Susan Smiley Lyons walk, and a Jay J-Bang
Matsudaira single, then scored their second run when Sandy Sander Hallstrom walked.
Curtis Knocker Nakamura knocked in two runs with a single, and Philip Phlipper
Hallstrom continued the scoring fest with a 3-run homerun. The Dreadsox werent done, as
Puffn Steff and Kurt Lil Hurt Hayashida singled, then scored on Smileys
2-run triple. Chris Bootch Burchs single plated Smiley to cap the innings
scoring at 10.
When the Dreadsox took the field defensively, they hoped to hold onto their lead while playing
with 8 fielders. Little did they know that they would lose a player instead. After a single and
a walk, the third batter hit a blooper down the right field line. RF Kevin The Joker
Hayashida made a spectacular attempt at a diving catch, but landed awkwardly, dislocating his
left shoulder as the ball came popping out of his mitt. The Joker was taken to the hospital, where
he was treated and released in time to catch the tail end of the second game. Besides the three runs
that scored on the play, Slide Rulers were only able to score 2 more runs in the game.
Dreadsox bats were hot, as everybody had at least one hit, and everybody scored at least one run in
the game. Curtis Knocker Nakamura displayed the benefits of having shown up to his first
practice of the season by batting 3-for-3 with 3 runs scored and 5 RBIs on a single, double,
triple & walk. He also had some nice assists in the infield, playing the man-down SS/2B position.
Eric Shady Shadle was also a homerun away from hitting for the cycle, as his single,
double and triple produced 2 runs and 2 RBIs. Susan Smiley Lyons used a 3-for-5
outing to score 3 runs and bat in 3, while H.R. Puffn Steff Zabriskie also went
3-for-5 with 2 RBIs and a run of her own.
