Game Recap:
The Dreadsox were out hit by Slide Rulers in the second game, but two big hits in
the bottom of the fifth inning clinched an exciting 11-12 victory for the Dreadsox.
Still playing with 8 defensive positions, the Dreadsox shut out the Slide Rulers in
the top of the first inning, then scored 4 runs in the bottom of the first. Philip
Phlipper Hallstrom led off the inning with a triple, and after a walk by
Lori Tiger Johnson, scored on an H.R. Puffn Steff Zabriskie
base hit. Johnson and Zabriskie finished the innings scoring on base hits by Eric
Shady Shadle and Marc Psycho Nagle. The Dreadsox allowed 7 runs
in the top of the second inning, but regained the lead with 6 runs in the bottom of the
frame. Jay J-Bang Matsudaira and Tiger Johnson led off the
comeback with walks, then Curtis Knocker Nakamura lifted a fly ball to
center field deep enough to score J-Bang, who tagged up from second base. Five more runs
were scored on consecutive hits by H.R. Puffn Steff, Phlipper and
Susan Smiley Lyons, and walks to Chris Bootch Burch and Tiger
Johnson. The Slide Rulers closed the gap to 9-10 in the top of the third, but the Dreads
were able to get another run during their turn at the plate. A triple by Smiley
Lyons was followed by a Knocker Nakamura ground ball which took a wicked
bounce and hit the Slide Rulers first basewoman in the forehead. Feeling bad,
Nakamura stopped running, allowing the pitcher to scoop up the ball for the 3-1 put out
at first. The Slide Rulers pulled to within 1 again in the top of the fourth, and when
the Dreadsox couldnt score in the bottom of the fourth, tied the game at 11 in the
top of the 5th, as time began to run out. But the Dreadsox were not going to let this
victory slip away. Shady Shadle led off the bottom of the 5th with a triple,
then Smiley Lyons sent a 3-0 pitch deep into the right center gap to plate
the winning run.
The Dreadsox played great defense in the two games, especially considering that they were
playing short 2 fielders. Chris Bootch Burch played in his first two games of
the season, as he and Curtis Knocker Nakamura combined to smother almost all
ground balls hit their way. Offensively, Shady Shadle continued his hot hitting
with a 3-for-3, 2 run, 2 RBI performance, including the clutch triple in the 5th. Smiley
Lyons also batted well, scoring 2 runs and collecting 2 RBIs on 3 hits, including a
triple. Tiger Johnson showed some amazing patience at the plate, drawing 3
walks en route to scoring 2 runs.
