Loaches are bottom dwelling scavengers with very small mouths. Like catfish, they too have
sensory fingers—or barbels. They are usually slender with worm-like bodies.
Game Recap:
The Dreadsox silenced the loaches and their very small mouths in the first game of their
double header with a 17-5 win that left the loaches squirming like worms. The Dreadsox got
off to an early 2-0 lead when Curtis “Knocker” Nakamura reached on a fielder’s
choice in the first inning, then Susan “Smiley” Lyons smacked a triple to score
Knocker. Jay “J-Bang” Matsudaira’s base hit scored Smiley for a 2-0 lead.
The Dreadsox defense then went to work, retiring the Loaches 1-2-3 in the bottom of the first.
The Dreadsox were held scoreless in the top of the second, then the Loaches cut their lead
in half in the bottom of the second, when the Jamie Loach blasted a triple (or 3-base error)
off of RF Eric “Shady” Shadle’s mitt, then scored on an infield out. The
Dreadsox added to their lead in the top of the third inning on doubles by Marc “Psycho”
Nagle, Smiley Lyons, and Kurt “Li’l Hurt” Hayashida. They again shut down the
bottom feeders in the bottom of the third, and added 2 more runs in the fourth when J-Bang
scored on Shady’s redemption triple, and “H.R. Puff’n” Steff Zabriskie
showed the Loaches who’s the boss with an RBI sacrifice. The Dreadsox got themselves
into a jam in the bottom of the inning, loading the bases on a walk with two outs, but pitcher
Sandy “Sander” Hallstrom got the next batter to fly out to left field. The Dreadsox
got solid hitting in the fifth inning, as base hits by Philip “Phlipper” Hallstrom,
“Sander” Hallstrom, “Psycho” Nagle, “The Li’l Hurt”, and
“Knocker” Nakamura resulted in 4 runs and a 11-1 lead. The Loaches got 3 runs to
stay alive, as normally outstanding outfielder “Shady” Shadle dropped a two-out fly
ball, then did an impression of a croquet wicket on the following batter’s ground ball
to left field. But the Dreadsox put the final blows on the fish with a 6-run top of the sixth,
then held on defensively as rover Angela “Babble-On” Porter caught a line drive off
her shoe-tops, then threw to second to double up the runner for the final out of the game.
Sandy “Sander” Hallstrom pitched another great game. She walked only 2 batters, and
allowed only 1 earned run in 6 innings of play for her 7th win of the season. The Dreadsox
defense held the Loaches to only 10 hits, as SS Kurt “Li’l Hurt” Hayashida
smothered practically everything hit to him, and CF “Smiley” Lyons made two great
running catches.
“Smiley” Lyons also had a hot bat, hitting 3-for-4 with a single, a double, and a
triple for 2 RBI’s, and scored 3 runs. “Li’l Hurt” Hayashida and “Psycho”
Nagle matched eachother at the plate, both hitting 3-for-3 with 2 runs scored, 2 RBI’s and
one double each. “Sander” Hallstrom was steady at the plate, batting 3-for-4 with
2 runs scored.
