Game Recap:
The Dreadsox overcame 7 errors and a grumpy umpire to win a barn-burner vs Pella
in the first game of the series, 27-28. Pella jumped ahead in the top of the first
inning, scoring 3 runs. But the Dreadsox tied the score with 3 runs of their own in
the bottom of the first. After Vince Pako Brooks reached on a fielders
choice, Susan Smiley Lyons doubled Pako home. Then Jay J-Bang
Matsudaira used his Dork Swing to perfection, blasting a shot over the drawn-in outfielders
heads for a 2-run homerun. Pella chalked up another 5 runs in the second inning, but
the Dreadsox would not let down. Consecutive hits by Philip Phlipper Hallstrom,
Cindy Helmet Louie, Curtis Knocker Nakamura, Lori Tiger
Johnson, Chris Bootch Burch, H.R. Puffn Steff Zabriskie, Kurt
Lil Hurt Hayashida, and Susan Smiley Lyons produced 5 runs
en route to a 9 run inning. After Pella got 4 runs in the top of the 3rd, the Dreadsox
scored 2 in the bottom of the frame. Pella scrounged 2 more runs in the top of the 4th
on a couple of balls that got away from outfielders J-Bang and Knocker (Doah!) to tie the
game at 14. The Dreadsox would not give up, rallying for four more runs in the bottom of
the 4th. The Dreadsox allowed Pella another run in the fifth, then couldnt get a run
in during their turn at bat. Pella then scored 6 runs in the top of the sixth, but the
Dreadsox again put together a string of consecutive hits by Sandy Sander Hallstrom,
Pako Brooks, Helmet Louie, J-Bang, Tiger
Johnson, and Marc Psycho Nagle for 6 runs and a 21-24 lead. Pella pulled ahead
with 6 runs in the seventh, but the Dreadsox would not be denied. After Pako popped out to
shortstop, singles by Tiger Johnson, J-Bang Matsudaira, H.R. Puffn Steff, Psycho Nagle,
Smiley Lyons, and Phlipper Hallstrom produced 4 runs, as Psycho Nagle crossed home plate
for the winning run.
Dreadsox bats were hot. Psycho Nagle had a 5-for-5 game with a double, scored 3 runs and
drove in 5 others. Tiger Johnson also went 5-for-5 with a double, scoring 4 runs and batting
in 3. J-Bang Matsudaira used three singles, a double and a homerun to produce 5 runs and 6
RBIs, while Phlipper Hallstroms double and four singles produced 2 runs and 2
RBIs. Smiley Lyons also swatted the ball well, going 5-for-6 with 3 RBIs and 2
runs scored.
Play of the game:
The Dreadsox pounded out 6 straight base hits in the bottom of the 8th to overcome a 3-point
deficit for the game-winning run.
Runner-up:
Curtis Knocker Nakamuras diving attempt at a 6th inning bloop hit, which
barely tipped off the end of his mitt.
