Game Recap:
The Dreadsox got retribution for their first game loss vs Nextel, and got their first victory
of the season with a 21-12 thumping in “The Thrilla in Tukwila.” The Dreads gave up
a run in the top of the first inning, but more than made up for it in the bottom frame. Eric
“Shady” Shadle led off with a home run, then the Dreads got two more runs by
collecting base hits from Kurt “"Li’l Hurt” Hayashida, Kay “K.O.”
Ounaphom, and “Shaggy” Sheri Smith. The Dreadsox defense again held solid in the top
of the second, retiring Nextel 1-2-3, then the Dreads increased their lead to 5-1 with two more
runs in the bottom of the 2nd. Nextel kept it close, scoring 3 runs in the top of the 3rd to
make it a 4-5 ballgame, but the super sox added two more runs in the bottom frame when Chris
“Bootch” Burch smacked a 2 RBI triple. Things started to get ugly for the Dreads in
the 4th inning, as Nextel rang up 7 runs for a 11-6 lead in the top of the inning. The
Dreads came storming back, though. They tied the game by scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the
4th — 3 of them coming on another “Shady” Shadle homer. Nextel got the lead back
in the top of the 5th inning, but the Dreads were determined to win. They pounded in nine runs,
as Sandy “Sander” Hallstrom, “H.R. Puff’n” Steff Zabriskie,
“Bootch” Burch, Philip “Phlipper” Hallstrom, and “Shaggy” Smith
each singled, Curtis “Knocker” Nakamura, “K.O.” Ounahpom, and Vince
“Snagglepuss” Brooks doubled, and “Li’l Hurt” Hayashida and Jay
“J-Bang” Matsudaira tripled. The Dreads then shut out Nextel in the top of the 6th
inning, and the game ended in a 21-12 Dreadsox victory as the games reached the time limit.
Defensive Play of the Game:
3B Chris “Bootch” Burch chased down a fly ball into foul territory in the 5th inning,
and had to make a last second, twisting adjustment to make a spectacular catch.
Offensive Play of the Game:
“H.R. Puff’n” Steff Zabriskie’s clutch single with runners on second and
third in the bottom of the 5th inning drove in the winning run.
Laugh of the Game:
In the top of the 6th inning, a Nextel player belted a ball to right-centerfield. He rounded
second base as the relay throw came in, so Kay “K.O.” Ounaphom, sitting the inning
out, screamed “Get him! Get HIM!” from the Dreadsox bench, enducing the Nextel
runner into a head-first slide at third. Little did he know that the throw in from the outfield
was bobbled by the cutoff man, and no throw was coming.
