Game Recap:
The Dreads lost a close one to Verizon Yard Dogs in the first game of the double header, by a
score of 11-12. The game did not start well for the Dreads, as they were retired 1-2-3 in the
top of the first inning, then gave up 5 runs in the bottom of the first. The Dreads retaliated
with 4 runs in the top of the second two of the runs coming off a Vince Snagglepuss
Brooks double. Our favorite sox then retired the Yard Dogs 1-2-3 in the bottom of the second,
and took a lead 6-5 when Kurt Lil Hurt Hayashida blasted a two run homer in
the top of the third. The Dreads fell behind again in the bottom of the third, though, as the
cellular canines scored 5 more runs. But our beloved Dreadsox kept nipping back at the dogs,
scoring 1 run in the top of the 4th, and 2 runs in both the top of the 5th and 6th innings,
while holding the Dogs to only two more runs. Down 11-12 in the top of the seventh, the Dreads
were unable to score any runs, as their first two batters popped out to the pitcher, and the
next two batters were left stranded at first and second when H.R. Puffn Steff
Zabriskies well-hit ball was caught by the left fielder.
Defensive Play of the Game:
In the 6th inning, CF Eric Shady Shadle broke hard on a line drive to shallow right-center
field, and made a great diving catch for the first out of the inning.
Offensive Play of the Game:
Kurt Lil Hurt Hayashidas 2-run home run in the top of the third inning
gave the Dreadsox a temporary 6-5 lead, after falling behind early 5-0.
Laugh of the Game:
SS Kurt Lil Hurt Hayashida and 3B Vince Snagglepuss Brooks had a
husband & wife play in the bottom of the 5th inning, as a high pop-up was hit
to the area between shortstop & 3rd base. They both watched the ball climb high into the air,
moved into the vicinity of where the ball was going to land, glanced at eachother, and let the ball
drop between them. Like a bad husband and wife, they were having serious communication issues.
Then, to make matters worse, the Lil Hurt picked up the ball to try to get the runner as
she made her way to second, and proceeded to loft the ball into shallow right field.
