Game Recap:
The Dreadsox were unable to keep the game as close as they did in the first game, as they dropped
the second game vs Verizon Yard Dogs 15-8. The Dreadsox reverted back to their style of play from
1996 and 1997, when they had major problems getting out of the first inning of many games. Verizon
racked up 6 runs in the top of the first inning, as the Dreads helped them out with a couple of
errors. In the bottom of the first, Kurt Lil Hurt Hayashida started the Dreadsox
offense off with a triple, then scored when Cindy Helmet Louie grounded out to the
pitcher, but that was all the runs the Dreads would get in the first two innings. Verizon, on the
other hand, added another 5 runs in the top of the 2nd inning, but were shut down in the top of the
3rd. The Dreads got a couple of runs in the bottom of the 3rd, and were hoping to get a bunch more,
but Philip Phlipper Hallstrom popped out to the first baseman with the bases loaded to
end the inning. Verizon increased the lead to 13-3 in the top of the 4th inning with two runs, then
the Dreads got them right back with a 2-run homer from Marc Psycho Nagle. Verizon scored
a run in the top of the 5th, held the Dreadsox scoreless in the bottom frame, then scored another run
in the top of the 6th. Down 15-5, the Dreadsox got doubles from Curtis Knocker Nakamura
and The Lil Hurt, and RBI singles from Stephanie Stun Gun Dunniway, Deborah
Howler Wolfe, and Phlipper Hallstrom. But the 3 runs were too little, too late, as the
teams ran out of time to play the final inning.
Defensive Play of the Game:
In the top of the 6th inning, a Yard Dog knocked a blooper into shallow left field. ROV H.R.
Puffn Steff Zabriskie charged in on the ball, tracking the ball to her right, and made
a sweet shoe-top catch to end the inning. Her victory dance was quite impressive, too.
Offensive Play of the Game:
Marc Psycho Nagles clutch 2-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the 4th
inning brought the Dreads to within 8 runs, giving them a short-lived spark.
Laugh of the Game:
SS Curtis Knocker Nakamura totally clowned the Yard Dog who was giving the Dreads problems
all day. The Dog named Dave got extra base hits every time he came to the plate, and again doubled
in the top of the 6th inning. The next Verizon batter hit a ground ball that the Knocker fielded
easily. As Curtis prepared to throw to first, he glanced at the runner on second, and noticed that
he was anxiously waiting for him to throw, so that he could break for third base. Knocker made a
great fake throw to first base, and had a huge grin on his face when the runner left the sanctuary
of second base. Nakamura easily tagged out the Dave Dog as he desperately tried to scurry back to base,
sending him whimpering back to his kennel.
