Game Recap:
The Dreadsox played some energized ball in the first game against US West Wireless, as they pounded
the dial tone out of the cordless ones 31-3. It looked like the Dreads were going to have a rough
time, as US West got a couple runs on a hard-hit triple to right center field, then got another run
for a 3-0 score. But that was the only time the wireless crew would hold the lead. In fact, those
were the only runs they would score in the game, as the Dreads put on an offensive and defensive
clinic. After the bases were loaded on 3 straight base on balls to start off the bottom of the first,
US West jumped on their cell phones to make a call to the bullpen. The new pitcher promptly gave up
an RBI single to Shaggy Sheri Smith, then a 2 RBI double to Curtis Knocker
Nakamura. That was just the start of things, as the Dreads pounded in 11 runs in the inning for an
11-3 lead. After retiring US West 1-2-3 in the top of the 2nd, the Dreadsox went back to work with
their bats for 5 runs in the bottom frame. (Not going to go into much detail, as it would take a
seriously long time to document all the hits. Lets just say the Dreads collected more hits
each inning than all of the Boy Bands combined ever will.) The Dreads retired US West
1-2-E6-3 in the top of the third... and no, Chris Bootch Burch wasnt the one with
the error. Then it was time for the Dreads to once again run some laps, as they piled up the runs
like free long distance minutes, getting 13 in the inning for a 29-3 lead. The Dreads defense again
retired US Wireless in order in the top of the 4th. They got two more runs in the bottom of the 4th
after Philip Phlipper Hallstrom led off the inning with his second triple of the game,
Jay J-Bang Matsudaira batted him in with his second double of the game, then scored on
a Vince Snagglepuss Brooks single. The Dreadsox again held US West scoreless in the top
of the fifth, as pitcher Sandy Sander Hallstrom capped off an amazing pitching performance
with a called strike 3 to end the game.
Defensive Play of the Game:
The Dreadsox played incredible defense, allowing only FOUR hits for the game. They also had some
luck on their side. A US West Wireless player hit a line drive up the middle that Dreadsox pitcher
Sandy Sander Hallstrom was able to barely get her mitt on. The ball glanced off Sandys
mitt, and bounded into the air for SS Kurt Lil Hurt Hayashida to catch for the
first out of the 3-up 3-down inning.
Offensive Play of the Game:
The Dreadsox had a runner on third, 1 run in, and two outs in the bottom of the third, when they broke
out an amazing 2-out clutch hitting streak. The Dreadsox brought 14 players to the plate, and scored
12 more runs before US West was able to get the final out of the inning.
Laugh of the Game:
Shortstop Kurt Lil Hurt Hayashidas throwing error in the top of the third
inning was so far off the mark that even Chris Bootch Burch was embarrassed for him.
