Game Recap:
The Dreadsox bats cooled way down, and the US West Wireless got a better connection in the second
game, as the Dreads fell 11-14. The Dreads got 2 runs in the top of the first on deja vu plays. Eric
Shady Shadle led off the game with a double, then Kay K.O. Ounaphom grounded
to the shortstop. Kay was thrown out at first, but the first baseman threw the ball into the dirt
trying to pick off Shady at third base. Shady scored on the throwing error. Curtis Knocker
Nakamura followed Shadys example by collecting a double, then Shaggy Sheri Smith
hit a ground ball to the shortstop. The shortstop threw Shaggy out at first, then the first baseman
once again made a bad throw to third, and Knocker easily scored... just like his hero, Shady. The
Dreads defense then retired US West 3-up 3-down in the bottom of the 1st. The Dreads were unable to
score in the top of the second inning, then gave up 5 runs to the wireless crew in the bottom of the
inning. The Dreads came back in the top of the 3rd with 3 runs to tie the game at 5, thanks in part
to a Vince Snagglepuss Brooks double. But US West regained the lead with three runs of
their own in the bottom of the third. The score remained at 5-8 until the bottom of the 6th inning,
when US West dialed up 6 runs for a 5-14 advantage. Confident that they could catch up, since they
had scored more than 10 runs in an inning twice in the first game of the double header, the Dreads
went to work in the top of the 7th. But, despite doubles by Knocker Nakamura and David Senan aka
Cody Brown, and base hits by Vince Snagglepuss Brooks, H.R. Puffn
Steff Zabriskie, K.O. Ounaphom, Shaggy Smith, and Chris Bootch Burch, the Dreads were
only able to produce 6 runs.
Defensive Play of the Game:
The Dreadsox practiced it once last year, and the pickle play appears to have sunken in quite well.
In the bottom of the fifth, with one out and runners on first and second, a US West player hit a
ground ball to shortstop Kurt Lil Hurt Hayashida. The Lil Hurt tossed to 2B
Deborah Howler Wolfe for the force out, and the Howler threw to first for the attempt at
a double play. The throw wasnt quite in time, but first baseman Chris Bootch Burch
noticed the runner was trying to score from second, so he threw to catcher Shaggy Sheri
Smith. Shaggy chased the runner back toward third base, then threw to 3B Curtis Knocker
Nakamura. The runner again retreated, as the Knocker closed in for the kill. Knocker flipped the ball
to pitcher Sandy Sander Hallstrom, who was now covering home, and she put the tag on the
hapless runner.
Offensive Play of the Game:
Vince Snagglepuss Brookss 2-out double in the top of the third was big at the time,
as it drove in two runs. He later scored to tie the game at 5.
Laugh of the Game:
In the bottom of the second inning, LF Philip Phlipper Hallstrom practically lived up to
his nickname. Phlipper fielded a base hit into left field, and came up throwing, as a runner was
rounding third base. He lost his balance on the throw, and tumbled to the ground. At the same time,
the US West third base coach was putting the stop signal to his runner, causing the runner to also
stumble, as he scurried safely back to third base.
