Game Recap:
The Dreadsox renewed their friendly rivalry with the Loaches with a 7-11 victory in the first game
of their double header. The Dreads held the Loaches scoreless in the top of the first inning, then
pounded out 6 runs in the bottom of the first. The Dreads got consecutive base hits from Kurt
Lil Hurt Hayashida, H.R. Puffn Steff Zabriskie, Philip
Phlipper Hallstrom, and Cindy Helmet Louie, then got a home run from Jay
J-Bang Matsudaira, and later a double from Marc Pshyo Nagel in the inning.
The Dreadsox defense stayed hot in the second inning, retiring the Loaches 1-2-3, but their bats
cooled down a bit, as the offense was shut out in the bottom frame. The Dreads gave up a couple of
runs in the top of the 3rd, then let the fishy ones tie the game at 6-6 in the top of the 4th. The
tie was quickly broken in the bottom of the inning, as doubles by the Lil Hurt and Phlipper
helped the Dreads earn 4 runs for a 6-10 lead. The teams held eachother scoreless in the 5th inning,
then the Dreads got another run in the bottom of the sixth when Chris Bootch Burchs
double drove in Curtis Knocker Nakamura. The Dreads defense held on in the seventh inning,
converting a double play, and keeping the Loaches to one run the final out coming with runners
on second and third.
Defensive Play of the Game:
The top of the 5th inning belonged to LF Philip Phlipper Hallstrom. Phlipper used his
tall frame, long strides, and long arms to chase down 3 Loaches fly balls. He made each catch exciting,
as the lights seemed to play tricks on him, and he had to make some last second adjustments before
gathering the Loach pellets in his netting.
Offensive Play of the Game:
With the bases loaded, Jay J-Bang Matsudaira used his dork swing to its
fullest, luring in the Loaches like a bunch of tubular fish with his dorkiness, then sending a line
drive to left field for a grand slam home run his second career grand slam vs the Loaches.
Laugh of the Game:
SS Chris Bootch Burch had a ground ball hit to him with no outs and runners on first and
second in the top of the third inning. Bootch stopped the ball, but not quite with the webbing of his
mitt. The ball was bouncing about between his feet, so Bootch went to pick it up. In his attempt to
grab the ball, Bootch showed the grace and footwork of ex-Chicago Bear lineman William The
Refrigerator Perry, and accidentally kicked the ball. Fortunately, the ball was launched right
to 2B Shaggy Sheri Smith, who grabbed the ball in time to get the force out on the runner
coming from first base.
