Game Recap:
The Dreadsox had a much stronger outing in the second game of the double header, leading for
much of the game, but ultimately lost by a score of 17-18. The Dreads started off nicely, with
a lead-off double by Jay J-Bang Matsudaira, then base hits by Deborah Howler
Wolfe, Marc Psycho Nagle, Vince Snagglepuss Brooks, H.R. Puffn
Steff Zabriskie, Eric Shady׆ Shadle, Cindy Helmet Louie, and Curtis
Knocker Nakamura en route to a 6 run inning. But the Dreadsox defense let the lead
slip through their fingers like a wet noodle, as the pasta makers pounded out 7 runs in the
bottom of the first. The Dreadsox bats stayed hot in the second inning, as David Senan (aka Cody
Brown), Mary Scott The Chief Senan, Chris Bootch Burch, Philip
Phlipper Hallstrom, and Sandy Sander Hallstrom each collected base hits,
then J-Bang crushed a Pegasus meatball for a 2 RBI triple and a 10-7 lead. Pegasus kept clinging
on like a wad of mozzerela to a slice of thin crust, scoring 2 runs for a 10-9 score after 2 innings.
Psycho Nagle then led off the third inning with a triple, and scored on a Snagglepuss sacrifice fly.
(Hit the ball deep, then Exit stage left.) With 2 outs, 6 more Dreadsox collected hits
in the inning for 4 runs and a 14-9 lead. After allowing 2 Pegasus runs in the bottom of the 3rd,
the Dreadsox collected 3 more runs in the top of the 4th. But the doughy dozen came back with 5 runs
in the bottom frame to close the gap to 17-16. The Dreads were unable to score any runs in the top
of the 5th inning, stranding two runners. Then Pegasus got 2 doubles to left center field to help
them score 2 runs, and send the Dreadsox to their 9th loss of the season.
Defensive Play of the Game:
Leading by 1 run in the bottom of the 5th (and last inning, due to time), with Pizza bakers on 2nd
and 3rd, SS Chris Bootch Burch fielded a ground ball, checked the runner at third, then
threw the batter out at first. Upon Bootchs throw to first, the runner at third took off for
home. 1B David aka Cody Brown Senan turned and threw home to C Cindy Helmet
Louie, who caught the ball and scared the runner back to third base to (momentarily) retain the
Dreadsox lead.
Offensive Play of the Game:
Jay J-Bang Matsudaira twice came to the plate with 2 outs and two runners on, and twice
hit 2 RBI triples.
Laugh of the Game:
(We have got a tie!)
LF Eric Shady Shadle chased down a line drive base hit down the left field line.
Instead of fielding the ball cleanly, Shady did an impression of Curly Neal of Harlem Globetrotters
fame, dribbling the ball around and between his legs before finally finding the handle on it to throw
in to second.
RF Stephanie Stun Gun Dunniway fought the sun, the wind, and her own feet on a
towering fly ball to right field in the second inning. She came in a few steps, moved to her right
a few, back a few, to her right a few more, then tried to move simultaneously back and to the right
a move that overloaded her feets comprehension. She fell backwards onto her kiester in
practical syncronicity with the softball landing 3 feet behind her.
