Game Recap:
Western Wireless got out to an early lead on the Dreadsox with 3 runs in the top of the first inning.
Then the Dreadsox held the Tower Shooters scoreless for the next two innings while gaining the lead
with 1 run in the first, 2 in the second, and 1 in the third. Western Wireless then came back with
a 5 run inning in the top of the 4th for a 8-4 lead. The Dreads cut the lead by one run in the bottom
frame, but the Tower people scored another 7 runs in the top of the 5th. The Dread batters wilted
under the pressure, and couldnt score a run to stay alive in the bottom of the 5th.
Defensive Play of the Game:
During the painful 5th inning, when Western Wireless scored 7 of their 15 runs, 3B Vince
Snagglepuss Brooks came up with a memorable defensive play. A Tower Shooter hit
a ground ball down the third base line, and Snagglepuss reached far down to his mid-shin to
field the ball. The ball ricocheted off his foot and into his mitt. With the agility of a pink
lion, Vince twirled and threw to first base... not quite in time to get the runner. He didnt
get the man out, but boy did he look good.
Offensive Play of the Game:
Unfortunately, Philip Phlipper Hallstroms incredible streak of 28 games with
at least one hit (dating back to Sept 7, 1999) came to an end when he popped out, then grounded
into a fielders choice during his 2 at-bats.
Laugh of the Game:
Marc Psycho Nagel, feeling the pressure of needing at least one run in the bottom of
the fifth inning to stay alive for another inning, stood at the plate with one out, nobody on,
and a 1-2 count. The Wireless pitcher lobbed the psychotic one a high haystack pitch. Determined
to crush the skin off the ball, Marc leaped up off his feet and took a mighty swing at the ball,
which meekly fell behind him for strike three.
