Game Recap:
The Dreadsox pulled out another victory in the second game of the double header vs Careless
Swingers. After holding the Swingers scoreless in the top of the first inning, the Dreadsox
got a solo homerun from OF Eric “Shady” Shadle, his second in as many games. The
Dreadsox let the lead slip, as the Careless Swingers earned two runs in the top of the 2nd
inning on some good hitting. The Sox were able to get the lead back in the bottom of the
third on a 2-run homer by Jay “J-Bang” Matsudaira. Again, the Swingers took the
lead away with 2 runs in the top of the fourth. That’s when the Dreadsox bats really
began to heat up. Base hits by Sandy “Sander” Hallstrom, Shady Shadle, Curtis
“Knocker” Nakamura, Mary Scott “The Chief” Senan, Philip “Phlipper”
Hallstrom and Stephanie “Stun Gun” Dunniway, along with a double by Kurt “The
Li’l Hurt” Hayashida, led to 5 Dreadsox runs and a 4 point lead. Unfortunately,
the Careless Swingers scored 4 runs in the top of the 5th to tie the game. Not to worry though,
as the Dreadsox were able to pull out the victory in the bottom frame. Vince “Snagglepuss”
Brooks led off the inning with a 2-base walk on 4 consecutive balls, and Kay “K.O.”
Ounaphom took the free walk to first. Consecutive doubles by Jay “J-Bang” Matsudaira
and Susan “Smiley” Lyons, then consecutive base hits by David Senan, “Shaggy”
Sheri Smith and Marc “Psycho” Nagel resulted in 6 runs before the Swingers were able
to record an out. With dusk approaching, and knowing that we would not be able to get in another
full inning, the umpire stopped the game for a final score of 14-8.
Defensive Play of the Game:
With the bases loaded, nobody out, and 2 runs already scored in the top of the 2nd inning, the
Dreadsox were looking to get out of a jam. The Careless Swinger hit a soft blooper between pitcher
and first baseman, and it looked like trouble. 1B David Senan “aka Cody Brown” ran
forward and caught the little fly ball off his shoe top to get the batter out, then turned and
noticed that the runner on first had left for second base. That bad-ass Cody Brown hurried back
to first base, and beat the runner to the bag for the unassisted double play. Pitcher Sandy
“Sander” Hallstrom got the next batter to strike out, snuffing the Careless Swinger fire.
Offensive Play of the Game:
Susan “Smiley” Lyons blasted a clutch double with runners on 2nd and 3rd in the bottom
of the 5th to seal the game.
Laugh of the Game:
In the top of the third inning, the Careless Swinger who blasted a shot over the left field fence
in the first game came up to bat with a runner on first and nobody out. Mixed in with the constant
flow of trash spewing out of her mouth, 2B Mary Scott “The Chief” Senan gave the ol’
“Easy out!” cry. Before she could even enunciate the “T” in “out”, she
found herself holding a softball which had blazed across the infield ground into her mitt. Shocked
and dazed by the sudden appearance of the leather orb in her mitt, The Chief ran to second base, where
SS Kurt “Li’l Hurt” Hayashida was waiting for her to toss him the ball so he could try
to turn the double play at first. Instead, The Chief hand delivered the ball to him for the force out
at second.
