Game Recap:
The Dreadsox lost the first game of the series vs Conner Development by a score of 14-18. The Dreads got
off to an early 2-0 lead on base hits by Philip Phlipper Hallstrom, Sandy Sander
Hallstrom, H.R. Puffn Steff Zabriskie, Marc Psycho Nagle, and Cindy
Helmet Louie in the first inning. The Dreads then denied the developers, retiring the side
1-2-3 in the bottom of the 1st. However, that would be the last time the Dreads would hold the lead in
the game. After being held scoreless in the top of the 2nd inning, the Dreads gave up 6 base hits and an
error, as Conner Development got 5 runs. The Dreads closed the gap to 4-5 in the top of the third on
Phlipper Hallstroms 2-run home run. Conner extended their lead to 4 with 3 runs in the bottom of
the 3rd with some well-hit balls. The Dreads refused to give up, cutting the lead in half in the top of
the fourth when Shaggy Sheri Smith blasted a double into left center field, scoring Mary Scott
The Chief Senan and Curtis Knocker Nakamura. Again, Conner developed a larger lead
in the bottom frame, scoring 4 runs for a 6-12 lead. Both teams each scored a run in the 5th inning, making
the score 7-13 going into the 6th. The inning started well for the Dreads, as the first 5 batters safely
made it to first base, but they could only come up with 3 runs, as the next 3 batters flied out. Then
Conner caught fire, scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning, powered by 3 singles, 2 doubles, a
triple, and a home run. Down 18-10, the Dreads showed some good guts, as they battled back for 4 runs,
but fell short in a 14-18 loss.
Defensive Play of the Game:
Right fielder Philip Phlipper Hallstom set a tone for the Dreadsox defense in the bottom of
the first inning. After the first Conner batter flied out to first base, the second batter hit a shot to
right field. Phlipper took a few steps in, then heard the desperate cries from his fellow outfielders,
advising him to go Baaack!! Phlippers momentum carried his tall frame a few more steps
in before he was able to get his motor running in the other direction, at which time the ball appeared
would sail well over his head. Let us not forget, though, that Phlippers head is 6' 1" off the
ground, and his arms stretch another 2½ feet above that. Now factor in that his softball mitt is
approximately 12.5 inches long, plus his 4-5 inch vertical leap, and what you get is a nice, fully
extended catch on the run.
Offensive Play of the Game:
Shaggy Sheri Smiths 2 RBI Double to left center field in the 4th innning was a sweet
line drive over the left center fielders head. Sheri showed amazing coordination as she turned
toward the Dreadsox dugout before making the turn toward second base, and pumped her fist as the ball
landed safely in the outfield grass.
Laugh of the Game:
We sure did miss Mary Scott The Chief Senan the past four games. In the bottom of the sixth,
with The Chief on second, and Marc Psycho Nagle on first, Shaggy Smith hit a solid base hit
to right-center field. The Developer playing in right-center bobbled the ball before throwing it back in,
so Psycho Nagle turned the corner at 2nd. He had to stop there, though, as The Chief was still occupying
3rd. The Dreadsox bench began razzing The Chief as to why she stopped running, to which the Chief smartly
retorted, I was listening to my base coach, yall!!
