Game Recap:
The Dreadsox suffered a case of frigid-batitous in game one, and the symptoms were about as bad in
the second game, as the Dreads got walloped 2-18. The game was actually pretty close for most of the
game, as the defenses held eachother to a score of 1-0 in favor of Blue Lightning after two and a half
innings. Blue Lighting got three runs in the bottom of the third inning, but the Dreads narrowed the
margin to 2-4 when Cindy Helmet Louies single scored Mary Scott The Chief
Senan and Jay J-Bang Matsudaira. Unfortunately, those were the only two runs the Dreads
would score. Despite the poor offensive showing, the Dreadsox defense actually kept them in the game...
until the 6th inning. The Dreads held the good-hitting Blue Lightning to 8 runs through 5 innings, but
gave up 11 hits in the bottom of the 6th inning, resulting in 10 runs and a 2-18 loss.
Defensive Play of the Game:
In the bottom of the 1st inning, with runners on 1st & 2nd and two outs, a lightning rod popped a
fly ball into foul territory in front of the 3rd base dugout. Third baseman Vince Snagglepuss
Brooks got on his pony, evaded the third base coach, and made a catch in the fashion that only Snagglepuss
can do.
Offensive Play of the Game:
SS Kurt The Lil Hurt Hayashida got the only extra base hit of the day (including the
first game). With 2 outs in the top of the 3rd, the Lil Hurt slapped a shot to left center field.
He turned the corner at first, and dug for second. The ball came in as he neared the base, the umpire
called him out, the Lil Hurt slid, then the second baseman turned around to tag him. Fortunately,
we were able to get the call overturned, as we informed the umpire that it was not a force at second,
so the defense needed to tag him for the out. Unfortunately, though, the Hurt was left stranded at second,
as the next batter popped out to the pitcher.
Laugh of the Game:
In the bottom of the 6th, in the midst of the Blue Lightnings 10-run thrashing, injured pitcher
Sandy Sander Hallstrom turned to manager Jay J-Bang Matsudaira, enquiring,
Dont they have more than ten runs than us? Shouldnt that be game? J-Bang
responded, Naw, well just let them play it out. Besides, we dont have our laugh of
the game yet. Upon looking around the dugout, he added, Oh, wait... Curtis
(Knocker Nakamura) is on the bench. Looks like we wont get a laugh of the game.
