Game Recap:
The first game vs Sweat Hogs on June 20 can be refered to as the Heartbreak at Hidden Valley. After
leading for much of the game, the Dreadsox gave up 4 runs in the bottom of the 7th to lose 14-15.
The Dreadsox were unable to score in the first two innings, but their stout defense held the Sweat
Hogs to only 1 run. Then, in the top of the 3rd inning, the Dreads got 4 runs off base hits by Kay
K.O. Ounaphom, David Senan (aka Cody Brown), Shaggy Sheri Smith, Chris
Bootch Burch, and Kurt Lil Hurt Hayashida. The Sweaty Pigs closed the
gap to 4-3 with 2 runs in the bottom of the third, but the Dreadsox added another 4 runs in the 4th.
Philip Phlipper Hallstrom, Mary Scott The Chief Senan, and Vince
Snagglepuss Brooks each got aboard with base hits, and K.O. Ounaphom and
Cody Brown provided the power with a double and a triple respectively. After giving up
a run to the Hogs in the bottom of the 4th, the Dreads were unable to produce any runs in the top
of the 5th. 2 more Pig runs in the bottom of the 5th made it 8-6 in favor of the Dreadsox. It
appeared the Dreads were going to walk away with a victory, as they scored 6 runs in the 6th,
powered by consecutive doubles by Jay J-Bang Matsudaira, K.O. Ounaphom, and Snagglepuss
Brooks. But the Dreads gave up 5 runs in the bottom frame, clinging to a 14-11 lead. The Dreads were
unable to get any insurance runs, as they were retired 3-up 3-down in the 7th. After the Hogs scored
2 runs to close the gap to 14-13 with 2 outs, and runners on 2nd and 3rd in the bottom of the 7th, a
Sweaty Sow hit a line drive to shallow left field. J-Bang Matsudaira made a diving attempt at the ball,
but came up just a bit short as the tying run crossed home. The ball bounced off his chest, so he
quickly got up, recovered the ball, and fired home, but the throw was not in time, as the winning run
scored from 2nd base.
Defensive Play of the Game:
With runners on first and second, in the bottom of the 3rd, a Sweat Hog hit a slow roller on the 3rd
base side of Dreadsox pitcher Stephanie Stun Gun Dunniway. Stephanie scooped up the ball,
turned, and underhanded to 3rd. Unfortunately, her stun gun misfired, and the toss became a slow roll
to third, as the runner reached safely.
Offensive Play of the Game:
Kay K.O. Ounaphom had a great game at bat, going 3-for-3, including 2 gruntacious doubles
for 4 RBIs.
Laugh of the Game:
Curtis Knocker Nakamura, who is notorious for sending hard-hit foul balls down the base
lines, became tired of hearing first base coach Kurt Lil Hurt Hayashida razz him
about his foul balls. Knocker decided to drill a line drive toward the first base coachs box
that knicked the Lil Hurt in the shoulder.
