Game Recap:
The Dreadsox found themselves in a tight game against an opponent that they felt like they should
have dominated, but did end up winning the first game 20-17. The Dreads started off strong, scoring
6 runs in the top of the first inning thanks in part to doubles by Curtis Knocker
Nakamura, Eric Shady Shadle, and Susan Smiley Lyons. The Dreads held the
Enforcers to 2 runs in the bottom of the bottom frame, then rallied for 3 runs in each of the next
3 innings, while holding DEA to 8 runs in their turns at bat for a 15-10 lead. After scoring 2 more
runs in the top of the 5th, the Dreadsox made it interesting, by allowing the Enforcers 6 runs in the
bottom of the 5th to close the gap to 1 run. The Dreads then got a few insurance runs in the top of
the 6th, thanks to doubles by Knocker Nakamura and Chrs Bootch Burch. The Dreadsox then
brought in Kurt The Lil Hurt Hayashida to close the game, and he responded with a
2-hit, 1-run, 1-walk, and 1-strike out performance. Good enough for a 20-17 Dreadsox victory.
Most Memorable Defensive Play of the Game:
With runners on 1st and 2nd in the bottom of the 2nd inning, an Enforcer hit a soft ground ball to
Dreadsox 3B Vince Snagglepuss Brooks. Snagglepuss fielded the ball, but instead of running
3 strides to 3rd base for the force out, threw the ball toward 2nd base. Toward 2nd base
is a relative term, as the ball flew into right field on an overthrow, scoring one run, and advancing
the runner from 2nd to 3rd. Eric Shady Shadle then picked up the ball, and attempted to
hold the batter at first base by throwing the ball into the Dreadsox dugout, scoring another run, and
advancing the batter to 2nd.
Offensive Players of the Game:
Marc Psycho Nagle twice came to the plate with the bases loaded, and both times came thru
in the clutch, hitting a 2 RBI single both times. Also, Chris Bootch Burch swung his heavy
tin, as he went 4-for-4 with 3 doubles and 4 RBIs.
Laugh of the Game:
Eric Shady Shadle, a .667 line drive hitter, got in a little jam with 2 strikes in the top
of the 4th inning. He fouled off the next pitch, giving him 2 ½ strikes (you are allowed one
courtesy foul after 2 strikes, then the next foul ball is an out by our league rules). The next pitch
was high, stinky junk... but Eric thought it was rather tasty. Shady swung and missed, provoking a
chorus of good-natured ribbing from the Dreadsox dugout. Chris Bootch Burch advised Shady
to sit outside the dugout, and Think about what you done.
